4 experts from UPMC will share opinions on Bo'Ao CN-Healthcare Summit 2018

Internationalization, foresight, authoritativeness and open are main characteristics of CN-Healthcare Summit. As one of the international cooperators of BO’AO CN-Healthcare Summit 2018, UPMC is America’s renowned research medical center, and it runs more than 20 hospitals and 400 outpatients. UPMC is leading in organ transplantation, neurosurgery, stem cell science and tissue engineering. In August 2014, UPMC made an agreement with Xiangya Hospital, Central South University to jointly build the International Department of Xiangya Hospital and bring international standards to this department.

At BO’AO CN-Healthcare Summit 2018, there is a special conference on April 28, where experts from UPMC will share their experience.

My name is Chuck Bogosta, President for UPMC International and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

UPMC is honored to serve as International Cooperator for the highly influential 6th China Healthcare Summit to be held in Hainan this coming April. 

UPMC has a long history of clinical collaborations in China and over two decades of bringing world-class health care to patients in other countries including our complex clinical specialties such as oncology, transplantation, emergency medicine, women’s health, pediatrics, and neurosurgery.

Dr. Tim Billiar, Associate Medical Director for UPMC International and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Billiar will present on topics related to training future innovators and UPMC’s collaborative approach to delivering cancer care; Dr. Bruno Gridelli, Executive Vice President for UPMC International and Professor of Surgery for the University of Pittsburgh; Dr. Gridelli will present on topics related to UPMC’s strategy for innovation and our vision for international collaborations in health care; Dr. Robert Edwards, Director for Transformational Medicine at UPMC and Co-Director for the Women’s Cancer Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute; Dr. Edwards will present on delivering a quality-driven service line in obstetrics and women’s cancer care.

Charles E. Bogosta

As the executive vice president of UPMC and president of UPMC International, Mr. Bogosta is responsible for the expansion of UPMC’s world-class medical care, technology and services to patients and hospitals around the world.

He oversees a broad portfolio of international projects, including ISMETT, a leading transplant hospital in Palermo, Italy; the development of a new biomedical research center in Sicily; and advanced cancer treatment centers in Italy and Ireland. Mr. Bogosta also leads the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, a partner with University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and a network of more than 40 cancer treatment centers providing world-class care close to patients’ homes.

Jack L. Berkebile

Jack L. Berkebile has been with UPMC since 2003, nearly 15 years. He earned a Bachelor degree of Science from the Pennsylvania State University in 1980 and a Master of Health Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986. From 1980 to 1984, he served as an officer in the US Army, including a year in South Korea. Following Jack’s departure from military service, he pursued his graduate degree in health administration. Jack has been working within UPMC International since 2009.

During his career in healthcare administration, Jack held a variety of positions, including direct responsibility for strategic planning, hospital administration, health insurance operations management, physician practice management, clinical operations and business development.

Jack has 12 years of experience in directing oncology programs. In 2009, he became the Director of Oncology Services under UPMC International’s management contract with the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in Reading, England. 

At the conclusion of his assignment in the UK, Jack remained with UPMC International, working out of the Pittsburgh office, performing business development work, both with UPMC Cancer Center and UPMC International.

In 2014, Jack led in the negotiation of an engagement with a highly respected hospital in south central China, which resulted in a 5-year agreement. Jack spent approximately 50% of his time working in China through 2016, and since then has been working out of the Pittsburgh office, supporting UPMC International’s business development initiatives, primarily in China.

Dr. Edwards holds a BA in Biology and Chemistry from Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA., and received his MD at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1984. Dr. Edwards completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Edwards is a member of professional organizations including the University of Pittsburgh Physicians Board of Directors, American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Association for Cancer Research, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Society of Gynecologic Oncologists, American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, International Society for Biological Therapy of Cancer, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society.
